| Update 16/01/05 Off-Table Guns Firing Over Open Sights Some of our games are very orientated towards using armour. Jez and myself are both partial to a few tanks on the table. Due to the fact that in my wargames room I have only room for a 6' x 4' table we decided to bring the theory of the larger battlefield to IABSM games. In our games we allow for perhaps one or more guns to be deployed off-table, depending upon the scenario. These are able to fire onto the tabletop, from a dug-in position, at extreme range. Their actual position on the baseline is marked prior to the game on the game map. Obviously they must fire in line of sight, so buildings, hills, woods and other terrain may, or may not depending upon the scenario, disrupt this. Initially they are unable to be spotted, as per usual situation with on table blinds and positions. If, and when, they fire they are not spotted immediately as with on table guns. A score of 12 is required to spot, less one for each shot fired this turn. Hence an 88mm firing three times will be spotted on a 10-12. The gun is at extreme range and so factors to hit will be doubled. In addition the gun factor of the piece will be reduced by two. For a tank or gun to engage a gun, located off-table, it too will count the target at extreme range and therefore apply the above factors. This adds a real feeling of a larger table to games, plus it has the benefit of giving a depth of defence to a position. It also means as a gamer you can field those pieces you'd like to use every once in a while without the need for buying more guns and crews. |
